The North Dakota Department of Human Services (state office) is the designated single state agency responsible to the federal government for receipt of federal money and to administer all programs partially or totally federally funded within the specified federal guidelines. The department is responsible to administer, allocate, and distribute any state and federal funds that may be made available for the purpose of providing financial assistance and services to eligible individuals and families who do not have sufficient income, assets, or other resources to provide a reasonable subsistence compatible with decency and health. The state office is responsible to direct and supervise county social service office.
